The Holmes Report unveils its ranking of the world's top 250 PR firms, following the worst year for major PR networks
The global PR industry grew by 5% in 2017, based on the Holmes Report's definitive annual ranking of the world's top 250 PR firms, which is now live. The Global Top 250, which provides the clearest picture available of global PR industry size and growth, is based on submissions from more than 400 PR firms across the world. The research reveals that the Top 250 PR firms reported fee income of around $11.7bn in 2017, compared to $11bn for last year's Top 250 ranking. That growth was powered by midsize agencies, given that the the world's Top 10 PR firms only grew 0.9% to $5bn, led by strong performances from BlueFocus (up 12.3% in constant currency terms) and Cohn & Wolfe, which cracks the top 10 amid its merger with Burson-Marsteller.

Growth among the major global PR networks slowed in 2016, with the world's top 10 global PR firms reporting fee income of $5bn in 2017
The notable exceptions to this pattern came from China's BlueFocus, which grew 12.3% in constant currency terms, and Cohn & Wolfe, which cracked the top 10 for the first time this year after overtaking Brunswick and Golin. Cohn & Wolfe of course, has merged with fifth-ranked Burson-Marsteller to become Burson Cohn & Wolfe, although the firms are retaining separate financial reporting until the end of this year. The world's largest PR firm Edelman also registered growth (+2.1%) to reach almost $900m, even as its goal of becoming the first $1bn PR firm continues to take longer than it might have expected. Many other networks were either flat or declined, marking their toughest year since the global financial crisis. Notably, after several years of stellar growth, Weber Shandwick reported a revenue decline in 2017, as did Ketchum, Burson-Marsteller and Ogilvy PR.

As India gets international bad press, tourism ministry is tasked with changing its image as a country
Crimes against women in India have long made headlines around the world — whether they were directed against locals or foreign tourists. But amid the widespread criticism that the recent rape cases in Kathua and Unnao have received, the union ministry of tourism has been given a tough new assignment. The Narendra Modi government wants to create a positive image of India, and promote it as the ‘safest’ destination for solo women travellers. The plan to launch this new campaign was already in the works before the Kathua and Unnao cases grabbed attention. The ministry had shot films with women celebrities well known across Europe, Australia, the UK and the US, such as fashion designer Emma Puttick, golfer Carly Booth, and culinary expert Kylee Newton.
In a bid to make the police stations more people-friendly, special PROs will be posted in all the police stations
Police stations will soon have public relations officers (PROs) who will act as an interface between citizens and the law. State Police Chief Loknath Behera said that he had ordered the training of select officers to officiate as public relations officers in police stations in the State. The public can get in touch with the PROs so that they could get the service from the police easily and also seek information. The PROs are police officers in the rank of senior civil police officers or Additional Sub-Inspector. They were selected through a screening process led by the respective District Police Chiefs. They also underwent a special soft skill training programme to handle the new job.
"We as the Govt. are always proponents of freedom of press and are committed to safeguard the interests of journalists"
